Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country

LANSING — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Tudor Dixon and re-elected Gretchen Whitmer as Governor.

“Governor Whitmer is a courageous gun sense champion with a track record of standing up to armed extremists and pushing for common-sense gun safety laws,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown was proud to support Governor Whitmer’s reelection campaign, and are eager to help her pass more life-saving gun safety laws.”

“Governor Whitmer fought to keep Michigan families safe in her first term as Michigan’s Governor, and voters took notice – that’s why they have re-elected her to a second term,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “She’s a true gun sense champion who has always put public safety before the gun lobby’s extreme agenda.”

“Governor Whitmer understands the toll gun violence has on our communities and has always been willing to fight for our safety,” said Lindsay Warren, a volunteer with the Michigan chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We will be behind Governor Whitmer every step of the way as she works to support and pass the common-sense gun laws that we need.”

Everytown spent more than $2.3 million in Michigan this election to support gun sense candidates, including Governor Whitmer. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

As part of its efforts this election cycle, Everytown also released polling this fall showing that the vast majority of voters in Michigan support common-sense gun safety laws, including 93% support for background checks on all gun sales. More information is available here.
