New TV and Digital Ads Launching As Part of Seven-Figure Effort

93% of Michigan Voters Support Background Checks on All Gun Sales, 84% Say Gun Violence is Important Issue When Voting

LANSING — Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced a new $2.3 million paid media campaign in Michigan for the 2022 midterm elections. The effort will focus on mobilizing voters and calling out candidates beholden to the gun lobby — including Tudor Dixon and Matt DePerno — for their opposition to common-sense gun safety laws that makes all of us less safe. The ads will run on TV and across digital platforms in the Detroit media markets.

“Michigan voters have said loud and clear that they’re looking for candidates who will fight for common-sense gun safety laws and stand up for public safety,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown will make sure Michigan voters know that when extremists like Tudor Dixon oppose gun violence prevention laws, they put our families and communities in danger.”

As a part of today’s announcement, Everytown also released a new poll in Michigan showing the power of gun safety for voters. A full memo is available here but key findings include:

  • 84% of voters say that a candidate’s position on guns and gun violence prevention is important when deciding whom to vote for
  • 93% of voters support background checks on all gun sales
  • 81% of voters support Red Flag laws, which give families or law enforcement a way to temporarily remove guns from someone who poses a serious threat to themselves or others
  • 90% of voters support the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major federal gun safety legislation passed in over 25 years

AD TRANSCRIPT: “EXTREME”

How extreme is Tudor Dixon?

She opposes a woman’s right to make her own health decisions

And wants to ban abortions

Even describing a child raped by her uncle as a perfect example of someone who should be forced to give birth

She opposes common-sense gun safety laws that save lives

And would allow dangerous people to carry guns in public with no questions asked

Putting our families and law enforcement in danger.

Tudor Dixon’s extreme agenda puts us all at risk.

AD TRANSCRIPT: “THIS YEAR”

This year, another mother will miss bedtime.

A father will not return from work.

A child won’t make it home from school.

Because extreme politicians like Tudor Dixon are flooding our streets with guns.

Tudor Dixon opposed background checks on all gun sales

And would let dangerous people carry guns in public, no questions asked.

She even supports a plan that could cripple police, with deep budget cuts.

Tudor Dixon will put Michigan families in danger.

AD TRANSCRIPT: “BACK UP”

Michigan police keep us safe.

But when they need back up, Tudor Dixon won’t be there.

Her budget plan could slash up to 500 million dollars from Michigan police, threatening thousands of law enforcement jobs across our state.

The Michigan Association of Police Organizations said plans like Dixon’s would devastate police departments and leave our law enforcement ‘crippled’ with fewer officers on our streets.

Tudor Dixon: she’s dangerous for Michigan and will put our communities at risk.
