Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country
ANNAPOLIS, Md. —Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Dan Cox and elected Wes Moore as Governor of Maryland. Moore is the first Black Governor-elect in Maryland and only the third Black elected governor in U.S. history.
“Governor-elect Wes Moore ran on the promise that preventing gun violence will be his highest priority, and Maryland voters rewarded him for it,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “We’re proud to count Governor-elect Moore as a partner, and we’re eager to work with him to pass more gun safety laws.”
“The people of Maryland need a gun sense leader who will fight for public safety, and they have that in Wes Moore,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Moms Demand Action volunteers fought hard to support his election, and we will stand alongside him every step of the way as he works to end gun violence in Maryland.”
“I know the grief from having loved ones shot and killed, and I am confident that Governor-elect Moore is committed to ensuring that gun violence does not get in the way of Marylanders living up to their potential,” said Cindy Camp, a survivor and volunteer with the Maryland chapter of Moms Demand Action whose nephews, Alton Wallace III was shot and killed in 2015, and Daemon Wallace was shot and killed in 2022. “We’ll have his back as he fights for public safety measures that will protect our communities and save lives.”
Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.
