HARTFORD, Conn. —The Connecticut chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots network, issued the following statement today after Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed HB 6667, a gun safety bill addressing gun violence, also known as the “Governor’s Bill.” On Saturday, the bill passed the Senate.
HB 6667, the “Governor’s Bill,” includes multiple public safety measures including:
- Prohibiting open carry of all firearms in public
- Requiring safety training to obtain a permit to purchase, receive, or sell firearms
- Strengthening dealer licensing requirements
- Strengthening Connecticut’s secure firearm storage law
- Strengthening prohibitions on assault weapons and ghost guns
- Placing limits on bulk firearm purchasing
“We applaud the Connecticut legislature and Governor Ned Lamont for keeping Connecticut a national leader in the gun safety movement by passing and signing this comprehensive gun safety package,” said Alissa Dumont, a volunteer with the Connecticut chapter of Moms Demand Action. “This bill will ensure that bad actors in the gun industry are held accountable, requiring best practices for gun owners, and ensuring guns are not openly carried in our neighborhood. We are grateful that Governor Lamont and the legislature are gun sense champions that will prioritize our safety and we look forward to continuing to work alongside them to protect our communities from gun violence.”
