South Carolina Moms Demand Action, Everytown Denounce House Passage of Dangerous Permitless Carry and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement in response to House passage of H.B. 3930, legislation that would dismantle South Carolina’s concealed handgun permitting system, allowing people to carry loaded handguns in public without a permit or firearm safety training. The bill would also force South Carolina law enforcement to automatically recognize concealed carry permits from any other state, including those with no training requirement or other weak permitting standards.

“We are disappointed that our Representatives have chosen to forgo hearing any public testimony to pass a bill that puts public safety at great risk. H.B. 3930 would strip away the protections our permitting system provides, and make it easier for dangerous people to carry loaded handguns in public. Passing legislation that would drastically lower the bar for who can carry a handgun in public in South Carolina defies common sense. South Carolinians deserve laws that work in favor of our safety, and not those that abandon critically important safety standards. We hope that the Senate stands on the side of public safety and common sense and rejects this legislation.”
