NEW AD: Everytown For Gun Safety Launches Ad Campaign Against Extremist Doug Mastriano

10.12.2022

New TV Ad Highlights Mastriano’s Ties to Far-Right Extremism and Comes as Part of Seven-Figure Effort in Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH — Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund released a new television ad highlighting Doug Mastriano’s extremist ties, including his links to the far-right extremist website where the 2018 Pittsburgh Tree of Life shooter posted hate speech before carrying out the attack. The television ad will run in the Pittsburgh media market and on digital platforms in the Pittsburgh area as well. The announcement comes as part of a $2.1 million paid media effort Everytown is leading in Pennsylvania ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

“In Pittsburgh and across the Commonwealth, Pennsylvanians remember all too well what happened four  years ago when someone filled with anti-Semitic hate got their hands on a gun,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “The fact that Doug Mastriano is looking for support from the same online forum where the Tree of Life shooter posted his screed tells Pennsylvanians all they need to know about Mastriano’s extreme, dangerous agenda.”

Last week, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund released television advertisements that highlight how U.S. Senate candidate Mehmet Oz’s agenda puts us all at risk. As part of that announcement, Everytown also released new polling in Pennsylvania showing that the vast majority of voters support common-sense gun safety laws, including 95% support for background checks on all gun sales. Before murdering 11 worshipers at this Synagogue…

[911 Audio:] Multiple gunshots are heard from the lobby

The shooter posted his manifesto on Gab, a site for extremists who promote violence, white supremacy, and anti-semitism.

Doug Mastriano paid thousands to the same site to recruit supporters.

Mastriano is a far-right conspiracy theorist who compared gun safety measures to Nazi Germany.

Doug Mastriano is just too extreme for Pennsylvania.
