Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Volunteers Held More Than 200 Canvasses and Phone Banks for Gun Sense Champions During Weekend of Action

This weekend, gun violence survivors and volunteers with Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action held over 200 canvassing, phone banking and voter contact events as part of Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Everytown Victory Fund’s first Weekend of Action in advance of the 2022 midterm elections. Events were held this weekend in key swing states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Georgia, and ranged from a kickoff canvass rally with Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams to phone banking for Tim Ryan in Ohio. Phone banking and canvassing will continue for the next 36 days leading up to the election and another Weekend of Action will take place later this month on October 29 and 30.
When Moms Demand Action was founded in 2012, more than one third of Congressional Democrats had an NRA A-grade. Now none do. Instead, candidates are running on their gun safety credentials, because they know voters are with them. Already this year, more than 4,000 candidates have sought and received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction. This distinction lets voters know these candidates will stand up for gun safety if elected into office. The distinction is being used by candidates in their campaign materials ― in radio and TV ads, on social media and mail pieces. Additionally, gun safety volunteers and survivors of gun violence are going from advocating for gun safety to running for office themselves. Everytown Victory Fund has invested $3 million this election cycle to train volunteers to run for offices and join campaigns up and down the ballot through its Demand A Seat program. And so far this cycle, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund has endorsed 163 volunteers.
