PHOENIX — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund (“Everytown”) and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, today declared a major victory as voters rejected NRA-backed Sen. Martha McSally and elected Mark Kelly to the U.S. Senate.

Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund spent more than $3.8 million in Arizona this election, including a $750,000 contribution by Everytown Victory Fund to Senate Majority PAC to support Kelly against Sen. McSally, a top beneficiary of NRA money. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made nearly 90,000 calls and texts to support gun sense candidates in Arizona. Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund spent more than $2.2 million to support gun sense candidates for the state legislature, after both chambers of the Arizona legislature refused to take up bipartisan legislation to disarm domestic abusers last session. Races that would determine control of the Arizona legislature remain too close to call.

“Mark Kelly’s victory is just the latest proof that voters in emerging battleground states like Arizona are looking for leaders who will buck the special interests and champion common-sense gun laws,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to count Mark Kelly as a longtime partner, and we’re excited to help him and his new colleagues in the Senate pass long-overdue federal gun safety laws.”

“Few have done more to advance the gun safety movement than Mark Kelly, and now he is taking that fight to the U.S. Senate,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “We have been proud to stand by his side throughout this election, and he can count on support from Arizona Moms Demand Action volunteers as their new senator.”

“Mark Kelly’s victory is a victory for gun safety advocates in Arizona and across the country, ” said Marie Thearle, volunteer with the Arizona chapter of Moms Demand Action. “For him, the consequences of gun violence aren’t a talking point — they’re a lived reality. We know he’ll fight as hard in the Senate to keep our families safe from gun violence as we did to get him elected.”
