MAJOR LOSS FOR NRA: Judge Dismisses NRA’s Counter-Claims Against NY-AG

6.10.2022

NEW YORK — Today, the National Rifle Association was dealt a major loss in a case brought by the New York Attorney General after a judge dismissed all of the NRA’s counterclaims against the NY-AG. The Attorney General’s claims against the NRA of improper insider transactions and financial mismanagement — which could result in the removal of Wayne LaPierre from the organization — will now proceed to discovery, and an eventual trial.

“How many humiliating losses does the NRA have to suffer in court before its leaders finally realize the organization is not above the law?” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Today’s NRA is like the kid on the playground who throws a tantrum whenever he doesn’t get his way, which is happening more and more to the once-mighty gun lobby.”

“Today’s ruling is a victory for accountability and a big loss for the NRA whose claims of political bias were ruled total nonsense,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “As the rest of the country tells its senators ‘Don’t Look Away’ from the gun violence epidemic, the NRA is surely hoping that no one sees just how precarious their legal footing is.”
