Louisiana Moms Demand Action, Everytown Applaud Defeat of Dangerous Guns in Schools Bill

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today applauded members of the Senate Education Committee for defeating SB 298, which would allow teachers, employees and other private individuals to be armed in schools. Recently, legislators in Baton Rouge defeated two similar proposals that would have allowed guns in schools – SB 406 and HB 271. Both of these bills, as well as SB 298, came before different committees, bringing the total number of committees that have rejected the idea of arming teachers to three. There are still several guns in schools bills pending, including HB 332 and HB 602.

We’re grateful that leaders in Baton Rouge responded to this public outcry and voted down this dangerous bill that would allow more guns in our kids’ schools. And, we hope that they will continue to prioritize public safety and vote against similar bills that are still pending.”
