Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country

PHOENIX — Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as Arizona voters rejected gun lobby-backed Kari Lake and elected Secretary of State Katie Hobbs as Governor.

“The victory of gun sense champion Katie Hobbs in a swing state with a long tradition of gun ownership is further proof that the political calculus on this issue has shifted in favor of gun safety,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Just as Everytown and our grassroots army went all-in to help Governor-elect Hobbs win office, we’ll do everything in our power to help her pass the life-saving gun laws that Arizonans are demanding.”

“Arizonans have made it clear that they want gun sense champions leading their state’s policy making decisions,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Moms Demand Action volunteers supported Katie Hobbs during her campaign, and they’ll continue to support her as she leads Arizona towards a safer future.”

“Katie Hobbs understands the horrific toll gun violence takes on our communities and Arizona,” said Teresa Neiberg, a volunteer with the Arizona chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We know she will continue to fight for our safety in office, and we are ecstatic about her future leadership as Governor.”

Everytown spent more than $1.4 million in Arizona this election, which included support for Katie Hobbs. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot. Arizona Moms Demand Action volunteers participated in dozens of activations to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot, including events for Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.

As part of its efforts this election cycle, Everytown also released polling this fall showing that the vast majority of voters in Arizona support common-sense gun safety laws, including 86% for background checks on all gun sales. More information is available here
