Kansas Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Respond to Shooting at Olathe East High School

The Kansas chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots network, released the following statement after two adults were wounded, a school resource officer and a school administrator, in a shooting at Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kansas. Reports indicate the perpetrator was a student. Details are still developing. 

“Our hearts are with those wounded, and the students who were impacted by this tragic event,” said Colleen Cunningham, a volunteer with the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Kids should not have to grow up in fear of gun violence in their schools, or in their communities. We need tangible solutions to gun violence, and will keep working to keep Kansans safe.”

In an average year, 434 people die and 878 people are wounded by guns in Kansas. Gun violence costs Kansas $2.9 billion each year, of which $111.2 million is paid by taxpayers. Learn more about gun violence in Kansas here
