Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as Pennsylvania voters rejected gun lobby-backed Mehmet Oz and elected John Fetterman to the U.S. Senate.

“In sending Senator-elect Fetterman to Congress, Pennsylvania voters made it clear they’re looking for a proven gun sense champion who will fight like hell for commonsense laws to keep their families safe,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “We were proud to support Senator-elect Fetterman’s campaign, and we’re eager to help him make more progress in Washington.”

“Senator-elect Fetterman promised Pennsylvanians he would address the gun violence crisis, and we are proud to help send him to Washington,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “In office, Senator-elect Fetterman has shown time and again that he governs with gun safety in mind, working to break the cycle of violence and protect families. We look forward to him continuing to be a gun safety champion in Washington.”

“Senator-elect Fetterman knows that we cannot accept gun violence as the norm in our state, and we are confident that he will be a champion for gun safety measures in office,” said Gina Pelusi, a volunteer with the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action whose mother, Ruthanne Lodato, was shot and killed answering a knock at the front door of their home in 2014. “We look forward to working with him to pass common-sense gun laws that will keep our communities safe.”

Everytown spent more than $2.1 million in Pennsylvania this election, including support for Senator-elect Fetterman. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

As part of its efforts this election cycle, Everytown also released polling this fall showing that the vast majority of voters in Pennsylvania support common-sense gun safety laws, including 95% support for background checks on all gun sales. More information is available here.
