Everytown for Gun Safety released the below statement today from President John Feinblatt on the reelection of U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine. Last year, Senator Collins voted for the Manchin-Toomey amendment to expand background checks to all gun sales.
“Senator Collins’ re-election tonight in Maine, a state with a proud history of gun ownership, proves that elected officials can support common-sense measures to reduce gun violence without infringing on the constitutional rights of their constituents. Senator Collins was one of four Republicans to stand with the 92 percent of Americans who support background checks. In Maine tonight, political courage won over craven special interests.”
