Everytown, North Carolina Moms Demand Action Release Polling Showing Overwhelming Majority of North Carolinians, Including Gun Owners, Support Current Concealed Carry Permitting System

RALEIGH, N.C. – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today released a new poll conducted by SurveyUSA on behalf of Everytown that finds that 89 percent of North Carolina voters – including 83 percent of gun owners – support requiring a permit to carry a concealed handgun in public. The poll results (available here) come days before the House of Representatives is expected to vote on a dangerous bill, House Bill 746, which would remove North Carolina’s concealed handgun permitting requirement, allowing people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public without a permit or firearm safety training.

The poll released today also shows that, in North Carolina, 90 percent of Republicans, 91 percent of Democrats and 82 percent of current permit holders support the state’s existing permit requirement for carrying a concealed, loaded handgun in public places.

North Carolina has a long history of responsible gun ownership, and we understand keeping common-sense gun laws, like those that call for a permit to carry a concealed loaded handgun in public, are crucial for keeping our streets and families safe. I urge our lawmakers to stand up for the safety of all North Carolinians, and reject House Bill 746.”
