HOUSTON — As the National Rifle Association kicks off its annual meeting today in Houston, just three days after the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Everytown for Gun Safety and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, are continuing to lead the charge in response to the gun lobby’s deadly agenda.

“In the past twenty years, when faced with a choice to double down or back down, the NRA has always chosen to double down on the deadly policies that fuel gun violence,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “We’re now again seeing the NRA push deadly policies as it celebrates its victories for violence in Houston, just days after the horrific shooting in Uvalde. It’s obscene, despicable, and exactly what we’d expect from the NRA.”

“Politicians who choose to kiss the ring of the NRA’s leadership by attending this annual meeting are siding with violence over communities crying out for public safety,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “While NRA leaders and their lawmaker lackeys push the lie that more guns in more places make us safer, our volunteers are holding them accountable across the street today and across the country until they act. Because while they’re fighting for profits, we’re fighting to save lives.”

Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund has partnered with Jenny Holzer, a renowned visual artist, to deliver a powerful message on the deadly stakes of gun violence. LED trucks will be operating near the convention hall and around Houston today and on Saturday to make sure the NRA’s leadership knows the deadly cost of its agenda.

Additionally, today at 12:00 CT, Moms Demand Action volunteers will join a rally with several other organizations held outside the convention center, at Discovery Green. The rally, set to feature hundreds of attendees, will showcase the groundswell of Texans who are simply fed up with the NRA and gun lobby politicians and are demanding action on gun safety legislation.
