Everytown, Moms Demand Action Respond to Concealed Carry Mandate Markup

3.26.2025

WASHINGTON — Today, the House Judiciary Committee held a markup on HR 38, the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would create a federal concealed carry mandate that would force each state to allow individuals from other states, including those convicted of violent crimes and those who have never handled a firearm before, to carry concealed and loaded handguns in public. In response, Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action released the following statements:

“A federal concealed carry mandate would be a deadly disaster, overriding states’ rights and putting families and law enforcement at greater risk while making it more difficult to stop the flow of illegal guns into our communities,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “We urge lawmakers to oppose this federal mandate and ensure law enforcement has the ability to keep illegal guns out of dangerous hands.”

“As gun violence steals 125 lives on average every day in America, it is unacceptable that lawmakers are pushing a bill that would make us even more vulnerable to being shot and killed in public,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “We’ve seen gun homicides and deaths go up when states gut their concealed carry permitting laws. This mandate would put millions of people in danger by overriding the lifesaving laws states have put in place to protect their communities. If lawmakers pass this legislation, they will be doing so at the expense of our lives.”
