Red Flag Laws Can Save Lives by Creating a Way for Family Members and Law Enforcement to Act Before Warning Signs Escalate Into Tragedies; Red Flag Laws Also Address Another American Gun Violence Crisis— Firearm Suicide
NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown, released the following statement today applauding Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for introducing the bipartisan Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act. This legislation would empower family members and law enforcement in 50 states to seek an Extreme Risk Protection Order, a federal court order that temporarily blocks a person from having guns when they pose a serious danger to self or others.

STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:
“States are putting forward strong Red Flag legislation with Everytown’s support, and it’s encouraging to see Congress follow suit. We applaud Sens. Blumenthal and Graham for introducing a common-sense, bipartisan bill that would give families and law enforcement a tool to intervene when someone is in crisis – and help prevent both gun homicides and suicides.”
