    Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, Moms Demand Action Applaud Senator Elizabeth Warren, Julian Castro for Elevating Issue of Gun Violence Prevention in 2020 Presidential Campaign

      NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown, released the following statements in response to plans from Senator Elizabeth Warren and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro to address gun violence in the wake of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. 

      Warren’s plan aims to reduce gun violence deaths by 80 percent through a combination of executive actions, taking on the NRA and signing comprehensive legislation into law, among other things. Castro’s plan aims to address white nationalism and gun violence, and advocates for measures including common-sense gun safety legislation. 

      “We applaud Senator Warren and former Secretary Castro for presenting bold plans to address the gun violence that plagues our country every day,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. “Gun safety is top of mind for most Americans going into this election cycle — and the 2020 candidates’ plans reflect that.” 

      “We’re reminded almost daily that easy access to guns combined with hate is deadly,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We are grateful Senator Warren and former Secretary Castro have laid out detailed plans to dramatically reduce gun violence in this country. Inaction is not an option.”

      The 2020 presidential cycle has been notable for the number of candidates proudly embracing gun safety as an issue to run and win on, including robust gun violence prevention plans from Senator Cory Booker, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator Kamala Harris, Former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Governor Jay Inslee, Senator Amy Klobuchar and Former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke.   

      Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers are attending candidate forums to elevate the issue of gun safety around the country — and will continue to do so until the 2020 election.
