NEW YORK – Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for New Jersey governor.
“As a Navy veteran, former prosecutor, and leader on gun safety in Congress, Mikie Sherrill has spent decades fighting to keep our communities safe,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to endorse Rep. Sherrill, and we will work tirelessly to ensure she becomes New Jersey’s next gun sense champion governor.”
“New Jersey has one of the lowest firearm death rates in the country, and we need a proven leader like Mikie Sherrill to keep that progress going,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “She’s a veteran with a deep understanding of gun safety, a Congresswoman who knows how to deliver for her community, and a mom who shares our commitment to a safer future for our kids. Our movement is proud to stand with Rep. Sherrill as she runs to become New Jersey’s governor.”
Representative Mikie Sherrill has been a champion for gun violence prevention in Congress, fighting to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, expand access to secure storage efforts, and ensure background checks on all gun sales. She serves on the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major federal gun safety legislation in a generation. As governor, she will build on New Jersey’s strong gun safety laws and work to keep illegal guns off the streets and out of the hands of violent criminals.
