NEW YORK – Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced its endorsement of Mayors Against Illegal Guns members Paige Cognetti, Ed Gainey, and Matthew Tuerk for re-election in Pennsylvania.
“Mayors are on the frontlines of America’s gun violence crisis, and at the forefront of developing common-sense ways to keep their communities safe,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to endorse Mayors Cognetti, Gainey, and Tuerk for re-election, and we’re eager to continue working with them to save more lives.”
“Mayors Cognetti, Gainey, and Tuerk have proven time and time again that they take our country’s gun violence crisis seriously and are committed to real solutions,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “We know the impact that gun sense champion mayors can have on a city’s safety, and our movement is looking forward to continuing our work together when they’re re-elected.”
Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti has made gun violence prevention a priority, introducing a violence intervention program for the first time in the City’s history after speaking to mayors across the country about its effectiveness in their cities.
Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey is a survivor of gun violence who has helped reduce violent crime in Pittsburgh by 40 percent over the last two years. As Mayor, he’s launched a real-time gun violence data dashboard and called on state legislators to pass an assault weapons ban.
Allentown Mayor Matthew Tuerk has been a steadfast advocate for gun safety, calling for stronger gun violence prevention policies every legislative session.
