Everytown Congratulates New Biden-Harris Domestic Policy Council Leadership

5.5.2023

WASHINGTON — Everytown for Gun Safety and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, released the following statements today congratulating Neera Tanden and Zayn Siddique for their new roles leading the White House Domestic Policy Council (DPC) — a key national policy-making body for gun violence prevention. Additionally, Stefanie Feldman, who has served as Senior Advisor to the DPC, will now serve as the White House Staff Secretary.

“Neera Tanden has been fighting for common-sense gun safety policies for years, and we know she will continue that work in her new role,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “With Neera steering the Domestic Policy Council, the Biden-Harris Administration is sure to build on its record as the strongest gun safety White House in history.”

“Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action put everything on the line to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because they knew their Administration would be filled with gun safety champions,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “The Domestic Policy Council plays a crucial role in keeping our communities safe and we look forward to working with both Neera and Zayn in that fight.”

“Stef Feldman has been crucial to notching gun safety win after gun safety win under this Administration, and we congratulate her on taking this next step to serving as Staff Secretary for President Biden,” said Rob Wilcox, Senior Director for Federal Government Affairs at Everytown for Gun Safety. “With this strong team leading the Domestic Policy Council, the Biden-Harris Administration has proven its continued commitment to gun safety and we look forward to working together to keep Americans safe.”

This continues to be the strongest gun safety administration in history, as evidenced by President Biden’s signing and implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, confirmation of an ATF director for the first time in seven years, historic executive actions to address gun violence, his long record of taking on the NRA and passing life-saving laws, Vice President Kamala Harris’ years of gun safety advocacy, and the unmatched gun sense cabinet they have built. President Biden has prioritized gun safety since entering office, from combating deadly, untraceable ghost guns and helping close the background check loophole, to finalization of the stabilizing arm brace rule, to the comprehensive strategy to address gun violence that includes efforts to fight gun trafficking, investments in community violence intervention programs, and more.

Everytown, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action continue to work with the gun safety majority in the Senate, gun sense champions in the House, and the Biden-Harris Administration to ensure robust implementation and strong enforcement of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and our gun laws as a whole.
