(Raleigh, NC)–Tonight’s re-election victory for Senator Kay Hagan is a victory for gun safety in North Carolina. Following the election results, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the North Carolina chapter ofMoms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America issued the following statement:
STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY ACTION FUND:
“This election, the National Rifle Association failed to sway the voters of North Carolina, despite spending more than$4.9 million – the most they’ve spent on any race this cycle. Senator Hagan’s victory tonight is yet another example that an elected official from a state with a strong culture of gun ownership can vote for common-sense public safety measures while maintaining the support of her constituents. Senator Hagan stands with the93 percent of North Carolinians who support background checks – and not with the gun lobby.”
STATEMENT FROM KAAREN HALDEMAN, A VOLUNTEER WITH THE NORTH CAROLINA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:
“Moms in North Carolina have been making calls, hosting house parties and mobilizing voters in support of gun sense candidates like Senator Hagan. Senator Hagan’s re-election tonight proves what we’ve always known – that Moms are a motivated, mobilized voting demographic, especially when it comes to the safety of their families.”
Moms and Everytown-endorsed candidates in North Carolina included U.S. Senator Kay Hagan and U.S. Representative David Price.
