California Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Respond to the Shootings in Stockton in Which the Shooter used a Ghost Gun

10.20.2022

The California chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots network, released the following statement today after the authorities charged Wesley Brownlee, with three homicides in Stockton, California, and unveiled the use of a ghost gun. According to reports, the killer’s victims were targeted, with a pattern of apprehending predominantly Latino men, of which most were described by local authorities as unhoused.

“We stand with the community as we remember those who were targeted and left voiceless by these senseless shootings,” said Rudy Espinoza, a volunteer leader with Moms Demand Action. “We will continue to be relentless in our call for action on gun violence and an end to the havoc of ghost guns. We are grateful for policymakers who have listened.”

Following advocacy from leaders with Moms Demand Action and Student Demand Action, this past summer, California Lawmakers passed AB 1621, legislation that would further regulate  ghost guns.
