A Night of Music Shattered by Gunfire After Four People are Shot and Killed, 14 Shot and Wounded in River North, Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Respond 

CHICAGO — The Illinois chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots network, issued the following joint statement after a shooting took place around 11 p.m. last night outside a restaurant in River North, Chicago. According to early reports, a vehicle drove past the location and shots were fired into a large crowd that was standing outside for a listening party of a local artist. Latest reports say that two men and two women were shot and killed, while 14 others were shot and wounded, all ranging between 20s and 30s. 13 out of 18 victims were women. 

“This mass shooting isn’t just a headline, it’s another horrifying reminder that gun violence follows us everywhere,” said Julia Sun, a volunteer leader with the Chicago Students Demand Action group. “Our generation is tired of growing up with lockdown drills, community shootings, and our friends’ lives being taken too soon. We shouldn’t have to worry about a night out ending in bloodshed. America’s gun culture has to change.” 

Tomorrow, July 4, 2025 is the third-year mark of a gunman opening fire from a rooftop, shooting and killing seven people and wounding dozens more in Highland Park during a Fourth of July parade.
