Another Deadly Weekend of Gun Violence

It was another deadly weekend of gun violence in the US. Gun violence kills over 100 Americans each day. Last year, a record-high number of guns were sold, and 2020 is estimated to be one of the deadliest years on record for gun violence in America. Mass shootings are unfortunately just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this country’s gun violence crisis.

  • Chicago, IL

    At least 24 people were shot in Chicago, three fatally, including 7-year-old Jaslyn Adams who was shot and killed as she and her father were getting food at a McDonald’s drive-thru. Her father, Jontae Adams, was critically wounded.

  • Kenosha County, Wisconsin

    In Kenosha County, Wisconsin, three people were shot and killed, while another three were shot and wounded at The Somers House tavern.

    In Omaha, Nebraska, a man opened fire inside Westroads Mall, fatally shooting one person and wounding another.

    At a vigil for a homicide victim in Truro Township, Ohio, one person was shot and killed, and five people were wounded.

    A five-year-old was shot and injured in Baltimore, Maryland.

    In LaPlace, Louisiana, six people were shot and wounded at a 12-year-old’s birthday party. A neighbor said that all of the victims were children.
  • Shreveport, LA

    In Shreveport, Louisiana, at least five people were shot and critically injured in a drive-by shooting.

We need more than thoughts and prayers from our lawmakers. We need action now, starting with background check legislation.
